Juan Parrilla – Manuel Fernandez
Producer: Siudy Garrido

Bailaora (“Flamenco Dancer”) is one of Siudy Garrido’s most personal works. An autobiographical journey, this performance is an embodiment of Flamenco’s evolution that dives deep into Ms. Garrido’s contemporary perspective, while drawing from its rich traditions.

Recognized for developing a theatrical language within Flamenco dance that feels thoroughly contemporary, Ms. Garrido is recognized and respected as a groundbreaking voice for this artform in the Americas. She fearlessly steps into Flamenco’s many evocative paths as she develops new, yet timeless experiences.

Bailaora is, in essence, an artistic awakening. Bailaora has original music by Master Spanish Flamenco Composer Juan Parrilla and Manuel Fernández, with the collaboration of award-winning Flamenco Guitarist Jose Luis de la Paz. This score is an open composition that incorporates new instruments and structures into its beating heart. The elements of contemporary music and traditionally Flamenco sounds are fused with urban touches, such as salsa classic “Pedro Navaja” or jazz standard “Take Five”.

These transcendent Musicians embraced the full spectrum of possibilities, to give Bailaora a pathway from the past into the present. The result is a resounding humanist and feminist commentary on self-invention and self-determination, accessed through vulnerability and the inner strength of a warrior whose only weapon is her own art.
